External Projects Team & European Engagement
 
The External Projects Team (EPT) is a central support service aimed at providing expert guidance on external funding opportunities for staff within Staffordshire University.
 
The team provides one to one advice for faculties and departments, assisting, preparing, submitting and managing European projects.  The team is also experience in audit requirements for European projects and can advise staff on European regulations.

Sub Regional and Regional Representation
 
Staff also contribute to regional and sub-regional decision making by representing the unversity on multi agency partnerships to inform regional policy within the region.  These consist of Staffordshire European Partnerships (SEP) providing updates on EU programmes within North Staffordshire.
 
External Projects Team Resources:
 
European funding mechanisms are often perceived as complex, the team can help navigate the various ways of engaging with Europe programmes, whether you need to externally evaluate funding applications or you are looking to find new European partners, the team is here to help you by providing:  
  • Programme information and briefing sheets on specific calls (call fiche)
  • A dedicated external projects library of current European policy
  • Signposting to national contact points
  • Assistance in identifying partners and collaborating, advice on partnerships and frameworks for partnership agreements
  • Advice on managing and auditing European projects
  • Access to funding e.g. AWM Travel Grants for FP7 Projects
  • Advice on external appraisal of funding programmes
Visiting Europe
 
The Enterprise and Commercial Department visits Europe on a regular basis to work directly with partners and agencies.  West Midlands in Europe (WMIE) are a designated resource for regaional HEI's and other partners, their aim is to increase the West Midlands presence in Brussels.  WMIE will attend informative and partnership events with partners and give advice, meeting space, office space and support in contacting key organisations/partners within Europe.
 
Partnerships in Europe
 
The EPT are the first point of contact for staff who want to develop new EU partnerships to strengthen existing collaborations to benefit their reserach or enterprise projects, new partnership relationships albeit with Universities/Public sectors or Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from within Europe takes time and energy; the EPT help you with making regional contacts, by facilitating meetings and network opportunities with regional policy officers.  
 
What can staff do to engage?
 
UKRO
 
UKRO is funded by the Research Councils in the UK.  It provides e-mail updates, annual visits to HEI's / Advice and signposting on a variety of themes.  Staffordshire University pays a subscription fee to receive information; University staff choose to receive updates and can fill out a simple form to subscribe.
